Do you ever simply shut down?
In this crazy world of go–move–do, do you EVER set aside time to do nothing—simply to be?
We are human beings, not human doings.
Recently I was pushing and striving to my limits. I was arranging everything for the holidays for my family and also preparing for a speaking engagement in January. On top of all this, I had my nose to the grindstone with my writing, trying to meet my self-imposed deadline for a new book.
By the time I completed everything, I had endured five weeks with literally no break at all. Five long weeks, day in and day out. Late nights, early mornings. Non-stop.
I was exhausted. I was at the end of my rope. Nothing remained of me to offer anyone around me. I simply could not hold up the mantle of “doing”any longer.
So…
I hibernated.
I fled from the busy world of going and running and doing.
I took a break from people, ministry, phone calls, text messages, and emails.
· I placed REST first.
· I sought refreshment from my Father.
As a result,
In my quiet time, my soul was renewed.
In my rest, my body – restored.
My spirit remained strong and never fainted.
After three weeks of downtime, I am re-emerging—slowly.
Lately, I’m more careful now with my “yes.”
This part still is not easy for me. I desire so much to help others. I love to see people grow and thrive and achieve their God-given dreams!
But sometimes, we all need to just BE!
Let this verse encourage you to be still for it renews your strength!
Be silent before me, you islands!
Let the nations renew their strength! Isaiah 41:1
Do you need to take a rest?
Maybe it’s time to do something about it.
