Worship. We all do it. Every day our affection, adoration, devotion, honor, and reverence are given to something or someone.
Whom or what do you worship? All too often our devotion is to our possessions, our favorite team, our families, and our own opinions, ways, and worries. After one of our state college teams wins the national championship title, everyone in the state becomes a fan. Many people fly team flags off of their houses and out of their car windows. Some even paint their bodies or acquire a tattoo to proclaim their faithfulness.
Worship is actually a response to someone or something we really love, admire, or respect. It’s easy for some of you to worship your children because you love them so much.
When we fall in love with God, the only natural response to knowing Him truly and intimately is worship! When you realize the depth that you have been forgiven, you may fall to your knees, weeping and worshipping God for the love and mercy you have experienced. Some people even tattoo their bodies to proclaim their faithfulness to God.
When we relationally know God for who He really is, worship is true and spontaneous.
We were created to worship!
In Luke 19:37–40, we read about a crowd that gathered to wait for Jesus, much like a concert crowd might gather in anticipation of hearing their favorite artist. The crowd came early—maybe gathering like at a parade—and when Jesus, the One and Only, entered, the following took place:
As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, shouting: “BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”

THIS is authentic worship.
We can spend our energy worshipping something temporal like sports or worshipping the Only Eternal Living God.
What or whom do you worship? Be honest.

Prayer: Father, I want to know You so intimately that my heart overflows with worship to You. May everything I do be for You.
