“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
The Bible gives an example of a man who trusted in Jesus so much that even though he was facing trial, he was able to sleep peacefully and without worry. This man is Peter. In Acts 12, Peter was arrested and thrown in jail. The night before Peter was going to trial, where he would undoubtedly be sentenced to death, Peter slept so soundly that when the angel of the Lord appeared, he had to strike Peter to wake him up! Not even the light shining in the room was enough to pull Peter out of his sleep.
The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. (Acts 12:6-7 NIV)
I pray that you will begin to turn your burdens over to Jesus. There and only there will you find rest for your soul. I pray that you will continually seek after Jesus and that your love for Him will be higher and stronger than anything of this world!
Love, Kathleen 🙂
