How to Sleep Peacefully

In today’s world, we are busy. We all face a lot of pressures from the world. We are constantly trying to find the balance between our careers and our families. We are always trying to fit more into a day that is already too full. More often than not, people feel as though they are behind and will never be able to catch up.

With people thinking they have more to do and less time than ever to do it in, stress levels are rising, and people are getting less sleep. People can’t sleep at night because they are too worried about what they are going to do tomorrow. People can’t focus during the mornings because they are too worried about what they are doing that night. People can’t focus during the day because they are too focused on next week. This creates an unending cycle.

But I’m telling you there is a way to sleep peacefully and without worry!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

Jesus is asking us to turn our burdens over to Him. He wants to help! He doesn’t want to see us burdened by the things of this world. He wants us to trust Him with our lives.

The Bible gives an example of a man who trusted in Jesus so much that even though he was facing trial, he was able to sleep peacefully and without worry. This man is Peter. In Acts 12, Peter was arrested and thrown in jail. The night before Peter was going to trial, where he would undoubtedly be sentenced to death, Peter slept so soundly that when the angel of the Lord appeared, he had to strike Peter to wake him up! Not even the light shining in the room was enough to pull Peter out of his sleep.

The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. (Acts 12:6-7 NIV)

Most of us, if we were facing this problem, would never be able to get a good night’s sleep the night before our trail. We would be overcome with worry. But Peter found rest in God even in the face of trial.

I pray that you will begin to turn your burdens over to Jesus. There and only there will you find rest for your soul. I pray that you will continually seek after Jesus and that your love for Him will be higher and stronger than anything of this world!

Love, Kathleen 🙂
